RESOLUTION: In the name of the present "Parishioners of Maxey and Deeping Gate, we earnestly request all future Vicars and Churchwardens of Maxey that they most carefully preserve and watch over the War Memorial lately erected in the Churchyard, and that they take steps when necessary to obtain from the parishioners the funds required for its proper preservation. • Peterborough Standard - Saturday 11 October 1919 (page 8) reported: 'MAXEY. THE WAR CROSS. The dedication of the war memorial took place on Thursday (Sept. 25th) in the presence of a very large congregation, and was followed immediately by the harvest festival, for which the Church was appropriately decorated. A text over the altar "Rest in peace" was suited to both the services, and the offerings of fruit and corn were more abundant than usual, and have been thankfully acknowledged by the Matron of the Infirmary. The ladies to whom thanks are due are as follows: Mrs. Mawby (altar vases), Miss E, Short (choir stalls), Mrs. Smith (lectern), Mrs. T. Garford (pulpit), Mrs. Plant (pillars), Miss H. Garford (windows), Mrs. H. Loweth (font). The collections realised £5 15s 4d for the Infirmary'. https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0003301/19191011/119/0008

    • Historic England, listing details: 'Reasons for Designation. Maxey and Deeping War Memorial, erected soon after the First World War, which stands outside the church of St Peter, is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons: * Historic interest: it is an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made in the conflicts of the C20; * Group value: it has strong group value with the Grade I listed church of St Peter and nearby Grade II listed Maxey Hall'. 'Details: First World War memorial, with a later Second World War addition. MATERIALS: stone. PLAN: the memorial is located on the west side of the church of St Peter. The north face of the plinth has the inscription ‘IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF MAXEY AND DEEPING GATE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918’. The south face of the plinth has the inscription ‘O GRAVE WHERE IS THY VICTORY?’, and the east and west faces are inscribed with the names of the fallen.
