Description: Wall mounted, landscape oriented black marble backboard supporting a white marble tablet. Right hand side of tablet bears the main inscription and the left hand side contains a raised regimental badge below which, are details of burial on the battlefield. Inscriptions incised and infilled with black paint.
Inscription: Tablet, right hand side: IN PROUD AND LOVING MEMORY OF / EUSTACE ALFRED MOREY NICHOLS, / 2ND LIEUTENANT SHERWOOD FORESTERS. / KILLED IN ACTION NEAR HARDECOURT, FRANCE, / GALLANTLY LEADING HIS MEN IN AN ATTACK ON THE GERMAN TRENCHES, / JULY 20TH 1916, / IN HIS 23RD YEAR. / HIS SERGEANT WROTE OF HIM :- "HE WAS FEARLESS; I HAVE SEEN HIM CARRY / A WOUNDED OFFICER INTO SAFETY UNDER SHELL FIRE." / BORN AT BROXBOURNE AND BAPTIZED IN THIS CHURCH. // Tablet, left hand side, (badge): SHERWOOD FORESTERS / NOTTS & DERBY // Tablet, left hand side, below badge: HIS BODY IS / LAID TO REST IN / A SOLDIER'S GRAVE / NEAR THE PLACE / WHERE HE FELL. / "TILL HE COME."
