Description: Rectangular tablet in pink veined marble, topped by the badge of Clan Gray and its motto 'Anchor, fast anchor' with a gold cross patonce beneath the dedication. The tablet is surrounded by a narrow border comprising a pattern of three vertical lines (like Roman numeral three).
Inscription: IN GRATITUDE TO GOD/FOR THE LIFE OF/PATRICK WALWORTH GRAY/SCHOLAR OF TRIN. COLL. OXFORD/SEC. LIEUT. ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY/ONLY CHILD OF ALBERT & SOPHIE GRAY/OF CATHARINE LODGE, CHELSEA./BORN 4 APRIL 1898 HE DIED OF/WOUNDS AT AGNES LEZ DUISANS/NEAR ARRAS, 9 MAY 1917 AND IS/BURIED AT THE BRITISH CEMETERY THERE/ NOTHING IS HERE FOR TEARS .. .. .. .. .. /.. .. .. .. NOTHING BUT WELL AND FAIR/AND WHAT MAY QUIET US IN A DEATH SO NOBLE

A little memorial plaque in St. Luke's Church, Chelsea bearing the inscription that Lieut. Patrick Walworth Gray RFA died of wounds received in action, is all that that the outside world would know of the tragedy that caused so much grief at Catherine Lodge during those dark days."
