Derbyshire Courier Saturday 24/7/1920 reported the unveiling of the plaque and the clock at St Matthew's Church: "RENISHAW'S THREE WAR MEMORIALS. Renishaw has now three memorials to the men from the village who fell in the war. One is on a public-house wall at Emmett Carr, another is in the United Methodist Church, and the third, which was unveiled on Wednesday, is in St. Matthews Church. All three are tablets on which the names of the twenty-one men who paid the supreme sacrifice are inscribed, and they have been designed by Mr. Herbert Wright, of Renishaw. In addition to the three tablets a clock has been erected over the porch of St. Matthew's Church and this was started on Wednesday, by Mrs. J. H. Buckley. A memorial service was conducted by Archdeacon Crosse after the unveiling of the tablet, on Wednesday, and he was assisted by the Rev. W, R. Hewson and the Rev. Reese Jones, of Eckington. There was a large congregation. The memorials have been provided as the result of the initiative of the Renishaw, Emmett Carr and Spinkhill War Memorial Committee, of which Messrs. F. Woodcock and B. Collier are joint secretaries.
