    • Herts and Essex Observer Saturday 13/8/1921 reported: 'HATFIELD HEATH. UNVEILING OF MEMORIAL TABLET. —On Sunday Mrs Calverley, O.B.E., unveiled a tablet which has been erected in the village Institute to the memory of those who served in the War and especially of those who made the supreme sacrifice. The tablet, which in of slate with a wood frame, bears the names of 147 men from the village who served in H.M. Forces, and the names of the 29 of these who fell are inscribed in the centre column in letters of red, the remainder being in white. Surmounting the names is the following inscription :—" In grateful memory of the men who went from Hatfield Heath to serve in the Great War, 1914-1919." "And of those who did not return." Lieut.-Col. H. Broke opened the service with a short address and Mrs Calverley then unveiled the tablet, saying that she felt highly honoured at having been asked to perform that task. She hoped that those who came after would follow their glorious example of devotion to duty. Referring to the effects of war she said that she considered one good thing that had come out of it was that in a social sense the barrier of class distinction had been to a great extent broken down. Following the hymn “O God, our help in ages past," prayers were conducted by the Rev. R. A. Du Cane, Vicar, and by the Rev. R. C. Jude, Congregational Minister. The service closed with the National Anthem'. https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0003122/19210813/114/0005
