Memorial Details

Type of Memorial: Roll of honour or book of remembrance
WMR Reference Number: 98532
Description: Roll of honour dated 1916, mounted, framed and glazed. The central panel of the Roll has 200 handwritten-names and military units, arranged in 4 columns; 12 of the names are underlined, denoting that those men had died. (An explanatory note to that effect is at the foot of the four columns). Around that central panel is an illuminated border of blue sea-scape with masonic symbols. Beneath the lower edge of that border is the name of the compiler (Brother G. Martin) and date 1916 (N.B. At the time this Roll was compiled in 1916, 12 members of the Lodge were known to have died, and were listed on it as such. Of the other 188 men who were listed on it as still serving at that time, 11 had died by the end of the War. In 1921 the Lodge erected a separate memorial re the 23 casualties, our record of which is WMR 85602).
