Issues we are working on
Processing updates to images and names
Our priority is to resolve a major issue which is preventing images and names from being updated and processed correctly.
We are aware that for some users, the data may appear to be missing or overwritten. This is caused by data being wrongly indexed, and older revisions being published.
For volunteers using the internal site, this same issue causes deleted and unpublished records to still appear on the public-facing database.
Newer revisions are however being captured and preserved within our database and will be published once the error is resolved. No data has been lost.
This problem has taken longer than expected to fix due to the size of our dataset and the number of records affected. We are committed to spotting patterns and fixing as many records as possible.
Issues under investigation
Missing Components, Maker, Ceremony and References data
We have identified that some data from the following fields may be missing from the database.
- Components
- Maker
- Ceremony
- References
This data is still accessible to the public on the public-facing version of the War Memorials Register.
We currently understand that only Memorials with 1, 2 or 3 digit Memorial IDs are affected: less than a thousand records. We are nevertheless investigating the issue to ascertain the extent of the problem.
Please also contact us to let us know if you spot any records you believe are affected by this problem, quoting the Memorial ID.
We are optimistic the missing data can be restored from a backup of the database.
To help avoid duplication, please avoid entering any data which is present on the public-facing site into records where this data is missing until further notice.
.CSV export tool
We are exploring ways that users can download data as a .csv file from a filtered search. Making this function useful to users is dependent on the search working better.
Record Timeouts
Memorial records with a high number of associated names time out because they are attempting to display large amounts of data. We want to find a way to stop all the names loading at once and overloading the page, while also making all the data available.
Reporting
We are planning to build a dashboard which will help Callum to monitor all the contributions made by volunteers and generate reports on all the great work being done. This will help us to spot trends and identify future areas we need to work on and improve.
